Business Systems Analyst Job Description

The business systems analyst analyzes the business systems and requirements of a specific existing or startup business needs to develop processes, select and recommend software or find problems and suggest solutions to business processes.  The entire business process must be taken into account and the analyst must be technically proficient in many areas of computer business operations.   In the end, the business systems analyst develops and makes presentations to clients, assisting in the eventual development or modification of computer software and other business systems and processes and their specific technical details.

Education, Skills, Responsibilities and Functions

  • Most positions require a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in information technology or computer science. 
  • Strong knowledge and organizational abilities pertaining to documentation, programming, operator instructions, and program flow charts.
  • Strong working knowledge of System analysis and Workflow Management methods.
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex database structures.
  • Must have good conflict resolution skills and be able provide high-quality customer service utilizing tact and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational attributes and time-management skills with an emphasis on multi-tasking.
  • Capable in the development and administration of individual and group seminars in hardware/software systems training.
  • Possess information obtained from case studies and translate this information to usable information in the form of reports, graphs and flowcharts.
  • Strong propensity towards working independently with minimum oversight.
  • Ability to work with diverse group of professionals in close cooperation.
  • The business process analyst is required to focus on each department independently and maintain a broad vision of the entire project scope.
  • Excellent communication skills are desirable for this position as the systems business analyst will be interacting with and detailing their ideas and solutions to a diverse group of organizational employees.
  • The analysis and modification of various software program systems.  This may include the installation, debugging, encoding and testing of such systems to assist in furnishing the most productive, effective and efficient work environment.
  • Assist in the development of various software implementations and decide on proper hardware platform considerations, cost analyses of such, and the execution of time-lines for deployment.
  • Research, plan and recommend systems for a business's administrative duties and operations that may include many software solutions applicable to a business flow and process.
  • Be a part of a working team of professionals for implementation, modification and updating of various computer and software systems.
  • Conduct task analysis and interact with system users in order to assess and identify problems in order to improve productivity, integration, and efficiency for the purpose of reducing overall costs within an organization.
  • Developing and writing system and program usage documentation for system users and other organizational and external programmers to comply with external and internal standards.
  • Assist various internal business units in the preparation of business process mapping and a company's departmental procedures.
