Construction Industry- General
Construction workers generally complete projects in the heavy labor industries. They may find themselves developing highway, bridge, overpass, residential, industrial and commercial building projects along with extra-heavy and dangerous construction projects such as tunnels and shaft excavations, and even demolition of buildings and general infrastructure tear-down in order to facilitate new building projects.
Construction workers may operate manual hand and power tools of all sizes and types including but not limited to hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, electric drills, skill saws, electric sanders, electric drivers and wrenches along with a variety of other powered hand tools.
On the heavy equipment side, such equipment as air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, mechanical hoists, cranes, surveying and measuring equipment, and other such general heavy equipment many require advanced, proficient and additional safe-practice training and operating skills.
Some of the duties may involve cleaning and preparing construction sites, digging trenches, setting braces to support the sides of excavations, erecting scaffolding, setting concrete forms. Some construction positions may involve cleaning up dusty and even dangerous rubble that may require additional respiratory equipment such as face masks and self contained breathing apparatuses. These jobs may involve the removal of debris, asbestos, lead, and other hazardous waste materials.
Various construction jobs require differing types and degrees of knowledge and proficiency. Each specific field will require specialty training for effective and safe construction work practices on sometimes dangerous construction project sites.
