Engineers are in high demand; in today's society, there are more jobs in this field than available graduates.  A degree in engineering almost guarantee's ongoing and lucrative employment opportunities to those pursuer's of higher learning.  

Jobs in engineering encompass a very large group of specialties.  Some include, environmental engineer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, civil engineer, aeronautical and aerospace engineer, computer hardware engineer, computer software engineer, nuclear engineer, biomedical engineer, to name a few.

In today's complex world, just about all industries, consumer products and commercial equipment companies rely on engineers for the initial design, implementation and maintenance of numerous systems, factory processes, products and complex business services.

These are highly technical jobs, normally requiring substantial mathematical skills, physics training, electronics, hydrodynamics, pneumatics and other specialty educational pursuits.  The ability to express concepts and systems with visual drawings and schematics is essential for these professionals.  Some degree of schematic and flowchart drawing, drafting and computer aided design knowledge is required. 

These positions require a minimum of at least a Bachelor of Science degree in the chosen field of study.  Master or higher degrees will qualify for supervisory engineering positions for many companies. 

There are two types of engineers, those working within the production environment doing testing and maintenance work and those doing actual design and development work for products, factory, production processes and service processes. 

Production engineers work on such issues as the determination of a cause to a system or machinery breakdown, make estimates of cost and time for the completion of various projects, and the supervising of production and processes within a factory.   

Design and development engineers do actual design work for, and supervise the implementation of consumer and commercial products, various systems, factory processes, software, electronic and computer hardware, buildings, highways, bridges or other structures.  Design engineers also are responsible for analyzing the impact of the products, processes or systems, and structures they design in regards to the surrounding environment, safety issues and the interaction with the actual individuals using them.

In general, all engineering positions require a developed and strict attention for detail and accuracy.  Engineers are the initial designers, improvers and maintainers of existing and new products, processes and systems that are critical to the ongoing and persistent evolution of our societies.
