Maintenance - General
The maintenance worker can perform duties in any of a wide variety of jobs. But without maintenance, grounds, buildings and facilities in general become dangerous, non-functional and will eventually be rendered useless.
Some categories of maintenance jobs may include but are not limited to any of the following: building maintenance, grounds maintenance, carpentry equipment maintenance, welding equipment maintenance, machinery maintenance, pipefitting maintenance and many others. Job expertise will vary widely dependant on the type of maintenance position that is applicable. Some examples of duties and knowledge are as follows:
- Repairing and replacing defective equipments or parts using hand tools or power tools and general mechanical devices.
- Performing preventive maintenance and proper measures for safeguarding the machinery against degradation such as in the case of effectual cleaning and lubricating of parts.
- Writing reports of inspection, operation and recording of maintenance work and their associated costs.
- Maintaining organization and cleanliness in the storage and maintenance of tools or the machinery.
- Paint and repair of windows, doors, locks, light and medium duty equipment, walls and floors of institutional buildings, grounds and associated structures.
- General mechanical knowledge and operation of hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures involved in general maintenance work.
