The product manager title is many times used to describe a drastically different scope of duties and responsibilities across diverse industries. Many times, a product manager may be responsible for such intangible products as software, financial services, music or videos and even other more obscure services in some instances. - Since the position of product manager is highly responsible and can result in a company's success or failure, employees should have at least a bachelor's degree in Business, product development or a related field. Product Managers may have a variety of educational background types depending on the employer and nature of products the company is involved in.

- Since their work involves product designs, dynamics and safety, a product manager needs to be able to independently research product dynamics effectively and direct others as to the same.
